Dave Myers' devastated stepson has written kind words in memory of The Hairy Biker star, saying: "I had the honour of calling you my dad."
Tributes flooded social media when Myers died aged 66 in February this year after a battle with cancer, which he was diagnosed with in May 2022. His devoted wife Lili Orzac, celebrity friends, family and legion of loyal fans shared their devastation.
Myers was stepfather to his wife's two children, Izabelle and Sergiu, from a previous relationship, and a week after the star was laid to rest, the TV chef's stepson shared his first public post in tribute to his stepdad.
In a moving message, he celebrated his stepfather as an "inspiration" and "wonderful". He wrote on Facebook: "It has taken me a while to write this as it's hard to think about it and still cannot believe you are no longer with us.
"Last week we said our final goodbyes to one of the most wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Furthermore I had the honour of calling you my dad. You have always been an inspiration in my life, and will remain so even now that you are not with us anymore; with your infectious zest for life and unmatched passion for any endeavour you set your mind to. Without you, I would not be the man I am today.
"I'll end with a little quote from Renoir that I think is fitting and captures the effect you had not only on your family, but the millions of fans worldwide: "The pain passes, but the beauty remains"."
The social media post emerged after news that Myers left an impressive fortune to his family. The touching photo of Myers revealed how the star spent his final days with his loved ones, including his best friend and Hairy Biker star Si King.
It was King who broke the news to the world that Myers had died with a tribute on The Hairy Bikers official social media pages, writing: "I’m afraid I bear some sad news. Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years. Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home.
"All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own."
He added: "Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime. I wish you god’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.
"I know Dave and his family would want me to thank all of you who sent messages of support in recent times. It meant the world to him, his family and all The Hairy Bikers team. I am sending you all much love and gratitude for those simple acts of kindness, generosity and spirit. We are eternally grateful for them."
In the last episode of the Hairy Bikers series filmed before Myers death, he reflected on working with his best friend King during the challenging time. During the episode, King said: "We’ve done it, but more importantly he’s done it. He’s my mate but I love him like family, like a brother, and I’m lost for words. It’s quite remarkable what he’s done."
Myers responded to his best friend: "Who knows what the future holds but for the moment I’m living in the present, and it’s pretty fine."
